TRAPPED on
the 10-yard line is Eddy Gaskins in his drive for
pay-dirt.
PAXON 7 - JACKSON 6
Victory in our first game . . .
The
heartbreaker of our first game came in the second
quarter when we were so close yet so far away from a
touchdown. Befor the Golden Eagles rallied, the avenging
Tigers scored a six pointer late in the third period,
but the fine blocking of Jerry Pierce prevented the
decisive extra point. The last quarter found our weary
Eagles still trying valiently; then it happened - the
cheers of the Paxonites watching from the stands were
momentarily hushed. Richard Webster returned a Tiger
punt to the Paxon 35-yard line. This began the 65-yard
drive for our touchdown. The score was tied; it was time
for the extra point attempt. Eddy Gaskins plunged over
the goal and we were ahead; the stands went wild! Three
seconds, two seconds, one second - we won! Our jinx
dolls paid off in the last few minutes of the game.
